Think for a moment: What have you done today that used clean water?
A shower, cup of tea or coffee, clean dishes or hands, and the list can go on, and on - all before 10am. Many of us take water for granted, but with the world water crisis impacting 844 million people who lack access to clean water, it's a luxury.
As we honor World Water Day this week, consider what you can do to fight the world water crisis. You can support nonprofits like Numi Foundation, Water.org, Charity Water, or organizations like the Women's Earth Alliance who handle on-the-ground water access as part of their work abroad. You can also support companies that are tackling the issues head-on, using the power of their products to help fund solutions that provide water access to those in need.
Here's what Numi, and some of our friends dedicated to water issues, are doing:
HAND IN HAND SOAP
With a mission to stop the spread of water related illnesses in children, Bill Glaab and Courtney Apple founded Hand in Hand, a personal care company with a social mission: Buy a bar, give a bar. For every product purchased, one bar of soap + one month of clean water is donated to a child in need. Since 2011, over 1 million bars of soap have been donated to children in Haiti. Additionally, 4 wells have been built or repaired in communities in Haiti, providing clean water for drinking and cleansing. Hand in Hand products are vegan, cruelty free and palm oil free essentials for a clean life + a clean conscience.
JANJI
Janji is the world’s top socially conscious running apparel brand. Every season, Janji goes to a different country around the world, meets with local artists and fabric makers to design a line of running apparel around that country. Whenever someone buys Janji, 10% of the sale funds a clean water project in that country. For instance: Janji’s Uganda line is inspired by those they met in Uganda, utilizing fabric handwoven in Uganda. 10% of the sale funds a clean water project through Janji’s partner, Evidence Action, who distribute chlorine dispensers for drinking water.

NUMI ORGANIC TEA
What is tea without water? Purchase of Numi Organic Tea helps fund Together for H2OPE, a nonprofit initiative of Numi Foundation that provides clean drinking water to our farming communities around the world. SEVENLY
Based on a simple, core belief that ‘People Matter,’ the Sevenly team activated the now global ‘cause art’ movement in 2011 and started creating 7-day cause campaigns, inviting customers to purchase “advocacy art, apparel and accessories” that donate to non-profits. Within Sevenly's Food + Water Relief line of apparel, a portion of proceeds go to Convoy of Hope, who help distribute water filtration units as a part of disaster relief and beyond, in emerging countries. For a limited time, Sevenly is also offering the Give Water Box, a gift box of water conscious brands, that gives one month of water to two people in Sub Saharan Africa.
