Sometimes the most simple beauty remedies are the most effective. This all-natural, three ingredient green tea body butter will soothe dry skin and is pure enough to eat.
I grew up in the north, in one of the top 10 cities in the United States with the driest air. In the winter, my hometown has so little moisture in the air that it’s dryer than the Sahara Desert! Needless to say, I’ve spent years experimenting with various concoctions and creams to help protect and heal my skin. It turns out, the simplest DIY solution is the most effective – a simple whipped body butter with only a few ingredients! With no chemicals or preserving agents whatsoever, there’s nothing in the silky mixture that will irritate the skin, just nourishing fats that absorb easily into the skin without leaving a greasy residue like other balms I’ve tried.
I’ve tried many variations of this body butter, with different scents and add-ins, and green tea is definitely a favorite! The slight chocolate scent of the cocoa butter mixes nicely with the earthy scent of matcha powder for an invigorating blend.
Ingredients
1/3 cup coconut oil
2/3 cup cocoa butter
1 scant tablespoon Numi Tea Matcha powder
Instructions
Measure oil and cocoa butter into a glass measuring cup or handled bowl. Place the container in a hot-water bath until all solids are melted, stirring often. I place my glass measuring cup in a small pan of hot water over the stove.
Stir in matcha powder, using a whisk or handheld blender to incorporate fully.
Place the mixture in the freezer (or outdoors in a pile of snow, if you live in the right climate!) until partially solidified. It should be quite hardened on the edges, but still slightly soft in the center. If the mixture is too solid or too soft, it won’t whip properly.
Place the partially solidified mixture into a stand mixer, and whip for 3-5 minutes on high speed, until the color is much lighter and the texture resembles a fluffy buttercream frosting. Place in an airtight jar. If your home is warmer than 75 degrees, keep in the refrigerator to preserve the aerated texture.
To apply, rub a small amount into the skin (a little goes a long way) until absorbed.
