Tea has always been a calming ritual for me — I love that old quote “tea is liquid wisdom.” While I know that my healthy habit isn’t really making me wiser, I know that it does help me rest and think, which definitely counts for something!
As a high-strung person with a demanding job, I’ve begun to make a habit out of starting my day with a bit of yoga, meditation, and a mug of steaming tea. I can feel the benefits of this brief period of self care time throughout my entire day!
Yoga and tea are the perfect pairing, and have historically been used together to promote health and well-being. Some yoga studios even serve hot tea following each yoga session! Drinking tea first thing in the morning is such a lovely, warming ritual (especially if you live somewhere that’s a bit chilly) and helps to promote good digestion and gut health.
Here are my top 4 Numi teas to enjoy as part of my morning “mediTEAtion” ritual:
Turmeric Golden Tonic. I love the scent and strength of Numi’s Golden Tonic tea. Turmeric is a powerful anti inflammatory, so I choose this tea if I’m feeling a bit bloated or achy.
Gunpowder Green. This is my favorite green tea from Numi’s collection! If I’m feeling groggy and unmotivated, a cup will perk me right up.
Moroccan Mint. Mint tea is energizing and invigorating, especially Numi’s sweet and spicy blend. I love brewing a cup of this tea and then breathing in the fragrance as I meditate and set my intentions for the day.
Chocolate Earl Grey For those mornings where I need a little indulgent treat, Numi’s Chocolate Earl Grey tea fits the bill and satisfies my morning cravings (without starting the day with a stomach full of donuts!). The chocolate and vanilla scents are heavenly!
As you drink your tea, relax and allow all of your senses to join the tea-drinking experience. Inhale the fragrance and practice breathing deeply and evenly, let the tea swirl through your mouth and wake up your taste buds. After you’ve completed your tea drinking ritual, practice a few of your favorite yoga moves.
Here are my 4 favorite easy yoga poses to wake up with:
Cat Cow Pose. I always feel like a cat stretching after a nap when I do this pose. Gently stretching out my back and breathing deeply through my core prepares me to spend a day at my desk!
Standing Forward Bend. Such a good stretch to really work those always-a-little-tight hamstring muscles in your legs!
Camel Pose. Open your chest and stretch your shoulders with camel pose. A backbend may seem a bit intimidating if you’re a beginner, but I promise it’s easier than it looks!
Reclining Bound Angle Pose. This is my favorite pose to stretch my hips. I often stay in this pose for awhile to allow myself to rest and think.
I’d love to hear how you use tea as a part of our own daily ritual!
