Tea Tonics for Cold Season

by Holly Rose 2 Comments

Stuffy noses and scratchy throats call for a nurturing tea tonic to soothe the symptoms.

Numi Tea Tonics for Cold Season

My stuffy nose and scratchy throat is telling me it’s cold season, which means putting into action a series of healing habits passed down to me by my mother.

I’ve never used pharmaceutical cold medication, instead I’ve opted for natural or eco-friendly remedies for my reparation. If I catch the cold early enough an old trick called the ‘cold sock treatment’ usually nips it, where you soak 100% organic cotton socks with cold water, put them on, and cover them up with dry 100% wool socks then spend the night asleep in them. The process speeds up your circulation, hyper-activating your immune system—and if you’re lucky—enables you to skip the cold all together.

If it’s developed enough to try to knock me down, I opt for Tiger Balm instead of Vicks VapoRub and a (zero waste) vintage handkerchief instead of Kleenex to keep my cold’s environmental impact leveled out. Then, of course, I fill up on liquids, and plenty of them, relying for me on two tea-based cold remedies, one which righteously replaces cough syrup, and another which delightfully decongests.

If you have a favorite tea tonic for cold season, please share your recipe in the comments!

WOW! Going to have to make these tea remedies when my husband and I get sick or feel like a cold is coming on! I have asthma respiratory problems a lot and my husband has sinusitis when the seasons change. Thanks!

🌱 Why do grades of tea matter? The larger the leaf, the greater its surface area for steeping and the more complex the infusion. Numi uses only hand-plucked, fuller leaf quality tea for a pure taste that balances depth and nuance. Many bagged teas are machine-picked and use low-quality fannings and dust. Smaller grades release tannins more quickly, leading to a dark, bitter-tasting cup. Wake up with fuller leaf teas that steep slowly and evenly, delivering a smooth, rich flavor. When you drink our tea, you’ll immediately taste the difference. ☕️ Find our Breakfast Blend and over 40 delicious organic blends on our Amazon store. Link in bio.
